Chapter 11 - No Excuses, Just Results
When I was in school we made a parody from an old quote. "If at first you don't succeed, BLAME SOMEONE!" It was all in good fun, a joke to my friends and I. We knew we were expected to take responsibility for our own actions. Excuses were not acceptable to our parents or our teachers. They are not acceptable to God either. Sometimes it is really tempting to listen to satan as he whispers excuses in our ears. It would be so much easier if we did.
However, when we make excuses or "blame someone", we give up our power to change. We must believe and practice meeting our responsibilities and being truthful. If we want results, we must "train" like we do. It requires Commitment. Either you are committed to being responsible or you aren't, there is no in-between.
Joyce tells us that when we squarely face the truth, the truth will help us become the responsible person we desire to be. Truth is a powerful weapon when we train ourselves to use it. Doesn't mean it will come easy for us, nothing worthwhile every does, but becoming the person God created us to be will be more than worth the effort.
Father,
We know how easy it is to make excuses for our behavior. Satan is the father of lies and he loves whispering lies & excuses into our lives. When we are tempted to make excuses, to shirk our responsibility, call us out on it. Remind us to face the truth. We can become the responsible person we long to be with Your help. Help us make that commitment to You today. In Your Heavenly name we pray, Amen. So Be It!
Heard a song yesterday that reminded me of this chapter and goes right along with you blog. Voice of Truth by Casting Crowns.
ReplyDeleteBut the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the voice of truth says, "This is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I would choose to listen and believe the voice of truth
