Chapter 10 – Behavior 7 – The Habit of Excellence – Do Your Best for God - Karay

Are you trying to lose weight for yourself or for God? If it is for yourself think about your motives is it because you don't want someone to make fun of you? Is it because you hate the way you look in the mirror? Is it because your doctor told you to? Are you doing the best you can? Have you asked God for he strength to do your best? Without God we cannot do our best.

Many characters in the bible were nobodies but God used them in big ways. Let's talk about a few:

One such person was Moses. Moses was a boy. According to Egyptian law he was supposed to be killed at birth. but his mother strove for excellence and hid him until she couldn't hide him any more. Then she put him in a basket among the reeds. His sister strived for excellence and she got her brother back home until he grew up. Then we all know what God used Moses to do. Moses strived for excellence, but when doubt creeper in he called on God. He did some great things, but wasn't perfect. He strove for excellence.

Another such person was Joseph. Joseph was one of twelve brothers. His father favored him so his brothers sold him into slavery.  Once in Egypt he followed God's laws. He was falsely accused and thrown in jail. He eventually was brought to the attention of Pharaoh and became a leader for Egypt during the famine. If he hadn't strived for excellence he could have given into the temptation of Pharaoh's wife or committed other sins. Instead he was an excellent leader.

What do these three have in common they all trusted God when it trully mattered. Are you ready to strive for excellence in your weight loss journey? Have you set a goal for Melanie's challenge to exercise for days a week? Are you actually doing it? How about your eating habits? Let's strive for excellence this week.

Joyce asked us to ask our selves these questions:
"Do you do what you do with excellence?
How often do you compromise and take the easy way out?
Do you drift along in life, or are you pressing for the best?
Do you keep your commitments?
Do you always tell the truth?
Do you leave messes for other people to clean up?
Do you out your grocery cart back in the space designated after you load your groceries in the car?" (Pg 111)

Are you answers telling to how you are living life right now? Today start to take little steps to striving for excellence. Work yourself up to the bigger things. Remember we aren't perfect so we will fail sometimes. Only God is perfect so keep him in all you do and he will help you be excellent.

Dear God,
Please help us to be excellent. Please help us to do our best for you. I know without you I don't have the strength to get through the day. Thank you for all your blessings in my life and the lives of the ladies doing this study. In Jesus name. Amen.

  1. Thanks for puting it into writing who and why am I striving to loose weight and get my body in better physical condition. NOT necesarily doing it for the right reasons. Do it for my Abba, to be used by my ABBA. Yes I will feel better physically and mentally but oh to be fit for my King!!
