CHAPTER 10 Behavior 7: The Habit of Excellence

Focus Scripture:
So that you may surely learn to sense what is vital, and approve and prize what is excellent and of real value… Philippians 1: 10

"Excellence, Doing the very best you can in every situation is excellence not being perfect in every situation. "

I love that!

I am one of those critically minded people who delay doing tasks sometimes. I want perfection and perfection is usually beyond my grasp and the thing will be filled with flaws and imperfections and so, I procrastinate.  However, between reading the book Unglued by Lysa TerKeurst and this chapter, The Habit of Excellence,  I am learning that doing my best is what counts.  Learning to keep moving and keep doing even it means doing so with imperfect progress.

Joyce compels us to strive for excellence because that is the very nature of God himself and we are created in his image. She tells us if  we will begin to practice being excellent (doing our very best at each task) then we will soon develop the Excellence Habit, and by doing so we will defeat some negative habits that have held us back.

Being excellent is a choice, when we begin a task we have to make up our minds to do our best and stretch ourselves to push past our comfort zone. If we shrink back on do less than our best then we are not participating in striving for excellence.

We are encouraged to strive to excellence and in so doing we will be rewarded by the feeling of accomplishment with our selves. We all enjoy the I feel proud of my self feeling.

If you have not yet made the self commitment to strive for excellence in everything you do now is the time! Now is the time to cultivate the commitment to develop the Excellence Habit and reap the rewards of self fulfillment and walking in our creator's foot steps.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, We come before you Thanking you for all you are and you all do. Thank you for giving us examples of excellence all around us in Nature and even with the creation of our bodies. Help to tackle each task we are presented with, with excellence so that we further reflect your image!

In Jesus Name,  Amen!
